![]() February 12th. Mark it down, circle it, stare at it, wish for it. 38 days away. In the dull of winter, after Christmas and New Years, the only thing that keeps the monotony from becoming well monotonous, is the thought of spring!! February 12th the city of Philadelphia gets its heartbeat back. From the lackluster 4-12 Eagles to the Bynum-less Sixers, the Philly sports scene is awfully barren to start the new year. I won't even mention our beloved Flyers! As pitchers and catchers report to Clearwater, Florida on February 12th, with full squad workouts beginning February 15, the joy of Phillies baseball abounds! How sweet it is!! As you may or may not be able to tell, I love baseball!! There is something so pure (minus the steroid era) so elegant, so timeless, so compelling, so thrilling, so engulfing, so fun about the game of baseball!
What a better way to spend a sunny, spring afternoon than at the ballpark. A pack of cracker jacks and some peanuts, the commotion of vendors, the cheers of children, the jeers from the hometown crowd. The crack of the bat as the ball searches for green in the gap, the roar of 45,000 strong!! The Phillies head into 2013 with alot of unanswered questions. After an injury plagued, mediocre 2012 can they bounce back to baseball relevancy? Can they quiet the surge of a younger, talent laden NL East? I have a great deal of hope for the 2013 Philles. I believe Darin "Babe" Ruf is a force to be reckoned with. I think he is an everyday player and will be a household name by July. Michael Young, although on the downside of his career is still a tremendous hitter and an even better clubhouse guy. We still have 3 aces in King Cole, Doc, and Lee. We potentially have the best setup to closer 1, 2 punch in all of baseball. So here's to 2013, to February 12th, to pitchers and catchers! 38 days, keep the countdown coming. Let's play ball!
